The new Fundamental Law of Hungary has been published

On April 18 2011 the Hungarian Parliament adopted Hungary’s new Fundamental Law, which was signed in a ceremonial event by the President of Hungary, Pál Schmitt, on Easter Monday, 25 April 2011. The new Fundamental Law will come into effect on 1 January 2012.

The text of the new Constitution has also officially appeared in Edition 43 of the Official Gazette (Magyar Közlöny), published on 25 April 2011, and the text – in both Hungarian and English – may be downloaded from our website.

The constitutional process is not complete however, as this year Parliament will adopt more than thirty cardinal Acts associated with the new Fundamental Law, including those on local governments, the election of Members of Parliament, the protection of families, state assets, prudent management of state funds and budgetary responsibility.

The summary of Hungary’s new constitution can be found here. The English translation of the constitution is here.
