President of the Hungarian Supreme Court Meets Chief Justice Roberts
 

 

 

Dr. Zoltán Lomnici, President of the Supreme Court and the National Council of Justice of Hungary made an official visit to Washington April 23-25, 2007. He was received by the Hon. John Roberts Jr., Chief Justice and Anthony Kennedy, Associate Justice  of the Supreme Court of the United States. During the meeting they especially underlined the importance of promoting the rule of law and envisioned the cooperation of the Hungarian and American judiciaries for that purpose. Dr. Lomnici, who is also presiding over the Hungarian judicial administration, got extensively acquainted with the functioning of the Judicial Conference and its executive arm, the Administrative  Office of US Courts.

Dr. Lomnici met with Paula Dobriansky, Under Secretary of the Department of State for Democracy and Global Affairs. They discussed the importance of the rule of law and democratic values as well as the growing experince the Hungarian judiciary has gained in that respect through its active cooperation with judiciaries of other countries.
