Hungary welcomes developments towards greater flexibility in the U. S. Visa Waiver Program

In a diplomatic note handed over to the Embassy of the United States in Budapest, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary welcomed the recent passage by the United States Congress, and subsequent signature by President Bush, of legislation aimed at the modernization of the U.S. Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

In the note, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the legislation was an encouraging first step taken in the right direction and expressed its readiness to continue expert-level bilateral consultations to address the security and other requirements that need to be met for Hungarian citizens to be able to participate in the program. The MFA also welcomed President Bush’s commitment to work with Congress to allow for a greater flexibility in the Visa Waiver Program.
