Mr. Vujity, besides being a national celebrity and the anti-discrimination envoy of the European Union in Hungary, has been the official representative of the campaign of the city of Pécs to be the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2010. The city of Pécs, competing with many cities across the old continent, won this title last year. Mr. Vujity and his colleagues are now preparing the events leading up to and taking place during the year 2010. He delivered to Lantos the letter of invitation by Mayor of Pécs Péter Tasnádi.

Congressman Lantos, who is soon to become the Chairman of the House International Affairs Committee, found the plans for the new European cultural capital inspirational and pledged to support the city of Pécs in its ambitious mission. He accepted the invitation to visit Pécs during his next trip to Hungary.

Lantos and Vujity agreed to help the city of Pécs as Europe's cultural capital in 2010

Ambassador Simonyi and the Embassy of Hungary are working on connecting the city of Pécs as a European cultural capital with cities and institutions in North America.
