Hungarian Revolution Exhibit Unveiled At the Texas Capitol ~
Commemorating the 50th
Anniversary ~ (AUSTIN) - Today, in the South Gallery of the Texas Capitol Extension, the exhibit "1956 -The Hope of Freedom" was unveiled. The exhibit tells the story of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution through photos and written commentary and commemorates the 50th anniversary of the revolution and its brutal suppression by the Soviet Union. "This exhibit is a chance for the public to better understand the story of the Hungarians' fight for freedom and the price they paid for it," Phillip Aronoff, the Hungarian Honorary Consul General, said. "Fifty years later, it is important that the American people are reminded about why we fought the Cold War and the horrors endured by the victims of Soviet aggression." The exhibit, sponsored by Texas Speaker of the House Tom Craddick, will be on display from October 2nd through October 8th at the Texas Capitol Extension in Austin. It will open again at St. Thomas University in Houston on October 23rd, the day marking the 50th anniversary of the start of the Revolution, where it will coincide with a symposium on the Revolution on October 27th sponsored by the Hungarian Consulate and the American Hungarian Federation.
