Hungarian Filmmakers' Oscar Nominations

 

"Maestro" animated movie by Géza M. Tóth has been nominated for the Academy Award. The film is about the last  five tense minutes before performance of a great actor behind the curtains has already been awarded by 40 different international festival prizes.

The Oscar Gala will take place on February 25th, and the Hungarian film will be competing with Roger Allers’ "Match Vendor Girl."

Vilmos Zsigmond, director of cinematography, one-time Academy Award winner, is also among the nominees of the 79th Oscar ceremony. He has been chosen for his excellent job in Brian de Palma’s film "Black Dahlia."

Vilmos Zsigmond was born in Szeged, Hungary, in 1930, and has been living in  the States since 1956. The "lover of lights and shadows" is well known for his achievement in "Scarecrow" and "Deer Hunter," is the holder of several American and Hungarian awards, and is an honorary citizen of the city of Szeged.
