Hungary's
Foreign Minister Visits Washington, Meets with Secretary Rice
Hungary's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kinga Göncz, paid an official visit
to Washington DC on September 14, 2007.
During her one-day visit,
Minister Göncz met with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. They discussed
current issues in U.S.-Hungarian relations, including Hungary's contribution
to democracy promotion, the country's possible inclusion in the U.S. Visa
Waiver Program, the situation in Kosovo, and others. Minister Göncz and
Secretary Rice both agreed that the two countries’ relations are at a high
point with fruitful cooperation in a wide range of areas.

Minister Göncz also had the chance to meet with Deputy National Security Advisor
Jim Jeffrey and Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian
Affairs, Dan Fried. She visited Hungarian-born Professor Charles Gati of
Johns Hopkins University and spoke to Nancy G. Brinker, former U.S.
Ambassador to Budapest and the new Chief of Protocol. Before departing to
Hungary, she informed the representatives of the Hungarian media about the
outcome of her visit.
