Former President Mádl Speaks at Emory University in Atlanta
The former President of the Republic of Hungary, Ferenc Mádl visited
Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, as a Halle Distinguished
Fellow, from March 20 to 26, 2007.
President Mádl met
with Emory's Hungarian-born professors, Gyula Kodolányi and Tibor
Várady. He held meetings with several leaders of Emory University,
among them Dean of Emory Law School David Parlett, Vice Provost of
International Affairs Holli Semetko, Provost and Executive VP for
Academic Affairs Earl Lewis.
From March 22 to 24, President Mádl took part at the World Law
Institute Conference, accompanied by Ambassador of Hungary András
Simonyi. During the conference, he met separately with former U.S.
President Jimmy Carter, a keynote speaker at the event and an
advisor of the World Law Institute.
The university
organized "The Hungarian Revolution of 1956: A Commemoration" on
March 25 to mark the 50th anniversary of this historic event. Among
the speakers of the commemoration were President Máld, Professor
Kodolányi, and Vilmos Zsigmond, award-winning Hungarian-born
Hollywood cinematographer.
