"George Kennan and the Division of Europe" - John Lukacs Presents His New Book on Kennan at Embassy
 


 

Hungarian-born Professor John Lukacs gave a lecture and presented his new book on George Kennan at the Embassy of Hungary. His new book "George Kennan: A Study of Character" was published by Yale University Press in April.

In his introduction, Ambassador Simonyi praised Lukacs as an outstanding Hungarian and American patriot as well as one of the leading historians of our day. He expressed his happiness that the Professor's new book on Kennan is premiered in Washington at the Hungarian Embassy.

Professor Lukacs gave a lecture on "George Kennan and the Division of Europe." He described Kennan's views on the politics of world powers during and after the 2nd World War and the life in which these views were rooted. The audience posed many questions to the author.

Those attending the presentation and the reception afterwards included Helmut Sonnenfeld, former Senior Staff Member at the National Security Council and Head of the State Department's Office on Soviet affairs; Charles Gati, Senior Adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins University's SAIS; Ambassador of Norway Knut Vollebaek; Aniko Gaal-Schott; historians, diplomats, representatives of the U.S. and Hungarian media. The book store "Politics and Prose" sold copies of the new book and Professor Lukacs was signing books during the reception.
