Herbert Walker III Host Welcome Dinner for Ambassador and Mrs. Ferenc
Somogyi to Washington
U.S. Ambassador George Herbert Walker III and the Hungarian American
Coalition co-hosted an elegant dinner at the historic Hay Adams Hotel to
welcome Hungarian Ambassador Ferenc Somogyi and Andrea Bors Somogyi to
Washington. The evening provided an opportunity for key leaders, and friends
of the Hungarian American Coalition to discuss U.S.- Hungarian relations
with the newly appointed Hungarian Ambassador.

In welcoming Ambassador Somogyi, Ambassador Walker remarked that, "Hungary
could not have appointed a better-qualified Ambassador to the United States.²
Paula J. Dobriansky, Under Secretary of State, expressed her gratitude to
the Coalition and her high hopes for the recently established International
Center for Democratic Transition (ICDT) in Budapest, where both Ambassador
Walker and Coalition President, Maximilian Teleki serve as Board Members.

Other distinguished guests were longtime Coalition friends Kurt Volker,

Edith and John Lauer of the Hungarian American Coalition, Lee Edwards,
Chairman of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, and The Honorable
Mary Mochary.
