Central European FOTO Exhibition Opens at National Gallery

 

 

 

The grandiose Foto: Modernity in Central Europe, 1918-1945 exhibition opened today with a press breakfast and preview in the West Building of the National Gallery of Art. The breakfast was followed by remarks by Director of the National Gallery of Art Earl A. Powell III, Ambassador of Hungary András Simonyi, and Curator of the Exhibition Matthew S. Witkovsky. The event was attended by diplomats and cultural representatives of Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland and Slovakia.

After the opening remarks, the numerous representatives of various American and Hungarian newspapers and other media had the chance to see the magnificent landmark exhibition for the first time. Also part of the premiere was a 20-minute film montage comprising short excerpts from the series Modernity and Tradition: Film in Interwar Central Europe.

At the evening opening reception guests had the privilege to see the exhibition before it officially opens for the public on June 10.
