Congressional Delegation's Visit to Hungary

A three-member delegation of the US Congress visited Budapest on August 29-30. Congressmen Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Mario Diaz-Balart and Albio Sires met with Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány, Foreign Minister Kinga Göncz and leaders of the major political parties. Members of the delegation expressed their appreciation to Hungary for its commitment to help democratic transition in Cuba. They underscored the importance of the Hungarian support that is based on the legitimacy and experience of the peaceful regime-change in Hungary. Prime Minister Gyurcsány emphasized that democracy promotion is a priority for Hungary, and reiterated Hungary’s readiness to share its experience in democratic transition with Cuba. Foreign Minister Göncz pointed out that the Cuban people have to decide over the fate of their country. She added that Hungary continues to support democracy in Cuba.
