Ambassador and Mrs. Somogyi Participate at AIDS Briefing, Meet Jenna Bush


On March 3, the U.S. Department of State held a briefing on the international situation of HIV/AIDS and the efforts to stop its proliferation. Ambassador Ferenc Somogyi and Mrs. Andrea Bors Somogyi participated at the briefing.

At the event, U.S. Chief of Protocol Nancy G. Brinker delivered welcome remarks. Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (National Institutes of Health) discussed the global effects of HIV/AIDS and the origins of the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Mr. Karl Zinmeister, Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy and Director of the Domestic Policy Council, and Ms. Kristin Silverberg, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs discussed PEPFAR.

Ms. Jenna Bush, daughter of President George W. Bush, discussed her book "Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope" and her experience in Latin America and the Caribbean as an intern with UNICEF. Ambassador and Mrs. Somogyi met Ms. Bush after the briefing.
