Embassy Chef’s Challenge
The new Chef of the Embassy of Hungary Mr. Viktor Merényi has faced
already numerous challenges during his career, this time he will be a
competitor in Embassy Chef Challenge 2010.

Since arriving to Washington, D.C. he had several opportunities
to dazzle the guests of the Ambassador. His excellence and
creativity were appreciated not only by the Washingtonian
diplomatic circles, but at several gastronomic events around the
world. |

Silver medalist of “Culinary World Cup Luxemburg” in 2002 and
2006, winner of the „the best creative foods category” at the
“Traditional and Evolution high class „live kitchen”
competition” in 2008, he offered extraordinary culinary
experience to the public in Jakarta, Indonesia at the Hungarian
Culinary Days and will spoil the public here in Washington, D.C.
at the “Embassy Chef Challenge 2010” competition.

The Embassy Chef Challenge was launched in 2009 as a
fund-raising event. This year the first part of the Embassy Chef
Challenge 2010 is a head-to-head cooking competition.
Participating embassy chefs will prepare a main course dish
using salmon and other ingredients provided that day. In honor
of the hosting country, Sweden, these ingredients will be drawn
from Swedish cuisine.

On Thursday, March 18, participating embassy chefs submit an
hors d’oeuvre for consideration in the second part of the
competition, which will take place during Cultural Tourism DC’s
annual benefit reception at House of Sweden. At the end of the
night, two awards will be announced: the People’s Choice Award
and the Embassy Chef Challenge 2010 winner. |

culinary culture and a new, striving gastro-generation whose
achievements are based on regionality, creativity and individuality.” -
said Chef Merényi who considers being Chef of the Embassy of the
Republic of Hungary in Washington, D.C. a significant achievement in his
curriculum and an important step further in his career.
