Statement

on the adoption of House Resolution 915 in the

U.S. House of Representatives

„Encouraging the Republic of Hungary to respect the rule of law, treat foreign investors fairly, and promote a free and independent press.”

The Hungarian Government took note of House Resolution 915. It is important to observe that:

  • The National Radio and Television Board is an independent agency.

  • The Hungarian Government has no authority and no involvement in the license awarding procedure, cannot and should not influence the decisions of the Board.

  • The licenses awarded to two new radio stations by the Hungarian National Radio and Television Board are under judicial review before the court.

  • The Hungarian Government is confident that the due legal procedures will render justice and shed light on this matter. Therefore, it is premature to comment and to make a judgment until the court procedure concludes.

  • The Hungarian Government pays utmost attention to fair treatment of foreign investors and secures a business-friendly legal environment, including for the more than 600 U.S. companies.

  • Hungary has received more than 9 billion USD worth of foreign direct investment from the United States, the highest per capita ratio in Central and Eastern Europe.

  • The citizens and governments of a country that had got rid of a totalitarian regime are fully aware of the value of the existing free and independent press and fully committed to preserve it.
