Hey there!

Welcome to the School Pages of the Hungarian Embassy website.  On these pages we want to introduce you to some things that you might not have heard of at school, but of which we are proud as Hungarians.  Our country has over 1100 years of history behind it and is located in the heart of Europe.  We Hungarians speak "magyar," a unique language that isn't spoken anywhere else in the World.  Just for fun, you can compare it to English through this website: http://dict.sztaki.hu/english-hungarian

Everything and anything can be found in our country: from ancient Roman tombs and monuments to the most modern cinemas, cool concerts, etc. So if you want, you can get to know Hungary better through this website.

If you are participating in a Model United Nations project (another Hungarian invention, by the way) click here to learn more about Hungary and the UN.

Oh, I just remembered!  You wouldn't be sitting in front of your computers today if it weren't for the Hungarians who contributed with their inventions and innovative thinking.  Here are some of their inventions:

János (John von) Neumann

János Kemény - creator of the "BASIC" programming language, pioneer of e-mail

László Holakovszky
- inventor of the personal monitor

Charles Simonyi - creator of Microsoft Word, Excel and Windows

Andrew Grove - constructor of the Pentium microprocessor

and more:

Ernő Rubik - inventor of "Rubik's Cube"

László József Bíró - inventor of the ball-point pen

József Galamb - constructor of the Ford T-Model

Albert Szentgyörgyi - discovered Vitamin C
