Concert to Commemorate the Holocaust of the
Roma and the Sinti
The Embassy hosted a special
event January 31. Ferenc Snétberger, internationally known
guitar-virtuoso and tbe Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra from
Hungary gave a concert with the motto „In Memory of My People”.
The event was opened by Ms. Nada P. Simonyi, then Mr. Imre
Helyes, Consul General spoke about the tragedy of the Roma and
Sinti people during Word War II. Solo and orchestral guitar
works by Snéterber, as well concerto pieces by Bartók, Liszt and
Mendelssohn were performed with great success.

Due to the ovation of the
audience the orchestra gave two encores.
The orchestra came right
from New York where they had performance at the UN Headquarters
and the Hungarian Consulate General and are now heading for New
Jersey.

At the reception followed by
the concert where the press and media was also present
interviews were made with the musicians, and impressarios among
the invitees discussed further concert possibilities with them.
