April 17, 2009 Holocaust Memorial Month Screening of 'Blessed is the Match' with Director Roberta Grossman As part of its Holocaust Memorial Month, which
opened in late March 2009, the Embassy of Hungary screened the third
film, Blessed is the Match, on April 17, in the presence of the
director.
The documentary by Roberta Grossman is about the life of Hungarian Jewish martyr Hannah Senesh. The event was opened by Béla Gedeon, Cultural Attaché. Blessed is the Match is the first documentary feature film about Hannah Senesh.
The film tells about a young Hungarian Jewish girl who, as the well-known Dutch Anne Frank, kept a diary and also wrote poems. She emigrated to Palestine and later became a paratrooper in order to get back to Hungary to save her beloved mother from the Holocaust. She was characterized as ”a resistance fighter and modern-day Joan of Arc.”
