U.S. Ambassador to Hungary George Herbert Walker and Hungarian Ambassador
to the U.S. András Simonyi joined efforts in a road show last week in order
to facilitate bilateral cooperation in the field of higher education and
exchanges.
In St. Louis, Missouri, the Ambassadors gave lectures at the University
Club with the sponsorship of the World Affairs Council. The lectures touched
upon the many important aspects of the relations between the United States
and Hungary. The Chancellor of Washington University received the
Ambassadors to talk about possible forms of educational cooperation.
Investors in St. Louis are setting up a fund to sponsor exchanges of
Hungarian students at the city's universities and colleges. The visit was
organized by Honorary Consul General Joe Adorjan.
In New York, Ambassador Simonyi took part at the luncheon organized by
the Business Council for International Understanding. He later met with the
President of New York University, John Edward Sexton, and they discussed
plans to establish links between NYU and Hungarian universities.
At Yale University, Ambassadors Walker and Simonyi met many high-level
officials. They talked with the Directors of Undergraduate Career Services
and of the Yale Center for International Studies. The forms of strengthening
cooperation with Hungary were discussed.
The Ambassadors later attended a lecture by Hungarian-born historian,
John Lukacs, on "Popular Tides and the Ship of State" at the Henry
