Ambassador István Gyarmati, the
Director of the International Center for Democratic Transition in Budapest,
met with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice yesterday to discuss the
priorities of the Center.
The Center was established a year ago, based on
the idea that countries with recent experience of democratic transition should
share their experience with
countries struggling with democratic reforms. The
idea was raised in Washington, DC, and the Embassy of Hungary has been the
driving force behind it.
The priorities of the Center include launching projects
in the Broader Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe. The Center
is a dynamic, cutting-edge
institution, specializing in providing practical help based on first-hand
experience in democratic transition.
