Former Secretary of Commerce Evans Honored

 

Ambassador Simonyi hosted a reception at his Residence on Monday, April 3, in honor of former Secretary of Commerce Don Evans, who has been awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary by the President of Hungary for his outstanding contributions to fostering Hungarian-American economic relations.

Among the distinguished guests were Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman, Ambassador Nancy Brinker, Former Under Secretary of Commerce Phil Bond, and Frank Carlucci of the Carlyle Group.

Mr. Evans was the first U.S. Secretary of Commerce to visit Hungary, in December 2003, just a couple of months prior to Hungary's accession to the European Union in May 2004.

During his tenure Secretary Evans continuously emphasized the good relationship between Hungary and the U.S. and strongly supported the development of bilateral relations based on mutual partnership between the two nations.

One-third of the total accumulated FDI in Hungary originates from the U.S. Forty-five of the top 50 U.S. companies are already present in Hungary.
