The Director of the FBI, Robert S.
Mueller was in Hungary today to attend a ceremony commemorating the tenth
anniversary of the founding of the International
Law Enforcement Academy in Budapest. He also met with Prime
Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány and Interior Minister Mónika Lamperth.
At the meeting, Ferenc Gyurcsány said
that Hungary was equally committed to trans-Atlantic relations and the
process of European integration. He stressed that cooperation between
Hungary and the U.S. in the field of law enforcement has been especially
successful and that Hungary is a committed ally in the fight against
terrorism, organized crime, corruption and drug trafficking.
Mr. Mueller thanked Hungary's continuing
support for ILEA and praised the Academy's contributions to stability and
democratic transition in the region.
