Jeffrey Ly, the 11-year old piano prodigy, a student of Doctor
Bella Oster of the Academy of European Music and Art, performed a wonderful
recital at a Hungarian Embassy fundraising event yesterday.
Guests contributed generously toward the refurbishment of the
Embassy's Steinway Concert Grand piano, which had originally been purchased at
the initiative of the late Bálint Vázsonyi with the help of donations from the
Hungarian-American community in the early 1990s.
An audience of some 200 applauded the dramatic rendition of an
all-Liszt program by Ly, whose playing reached its fullest maturity in the
challenging "Mephisto Waltz."
