PM Gyurcsány's Letter to President Bush on Hurricane Katrina

The Honorable George W. Bush
President of the United States of America
The White House
Washington, D.C.

September 1, 2005

Dear President Bush,

It is with the deepest anxiety and sorrow that I heard of the terrible destruction and the serious loss of life with which Hurricane Katrina had devastated the states of Louisiana and Mississippi.

While expressing my most sincere sympathy and condolences, I would like to assure you that the hearts of all Hungarians go out to the families of the victims.

Though fully confident of the ability of the American people to meet challenges and overcome difficulties, I would like to confirm that Hungary’s Government and its citizens are eager and ready to offer any support that might be necessary so as to help alleviate the plight of those hit the hardest by this terrible natural disaster.

Yours sincerely,

Ferenc Gyurcsány
Prime Minister
of the Republic of Hungary
