At the invitation of Senator Charles
Grassley, Ambassador and Mrs. Simonyi paid a visit to Iowa
as part of the biannual tour of this beautiful state. The Ambassadors had
opportunities to get acquainted with the
agricultural, financial and technology sectors of the state. They visited the John Deere works in Waterloo,
Fekespace Systems in Marshalltown, Holdens Foundation Seeds, a Monsanto
Company, in Williamsburg, the Amana Refrigerator Company in Amana,
Rockwell Collins of Cedar
Rapids, and the EFCO Corporation in Des Moines.
They also met
with the principals at the University
of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, the University
of Iowa in Iowa City, and the Des Moines Area Community College West
Campus. The group met with local farmers at the Roorda family farm in
Prairie City and visited a
family business, Natural Products Inc., in Grinnell.
Finally,
Senator and Mrs. Grassley hosted a luncheon of turkey
from the Iowa Turkey Federation for the representatives of the 71
nations at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
