Ms. Klára Dobrev, the
wife of Hungary's Prime Minister, visited Washington, DC, between June 2
and 6 at the invitation of the Susan G. Komen Foundation Breast Cancer
Foundation founder Ambassador Nancy Brinker, to kick off the 16th annual
Komen National Race for the Cure held Saturday, June 4. Ms. Brinker, the
former United States Ambassador to Hungary from 2001 to 2003, named Ms.
Dobrev honorary international chair for this year's Race.
While Ms. Brinker was
serving as Ambassador to Hungary, she helped raise awareness about breast
cancer among Hungarian women by leading a march over the historic Chain
Bridge in Budapest. The bridge was illuminated in pink for the occasion.
Ms. Dobrev is working
on establishing a foundation in Hungary dedicated to increasing awareness
about disease prevention and the benefits of physical activity to overall
health and wellness. In addition to participating in the Komen
National Race, she met with First Lady Laura Bush, Secretary of Health
Mike Leavitt, Congressman Tom Lantos, as well as representatives of
several civil organizations active in the field of disease prevention.
