U.S. – Hungarian Innovation Project Launch a Success

Hungarian and American top government officials and business leaders met in Washington, DC, to discuss ways to close the technology gap between Hungary and the United States.

The conference, organized by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and supported by the Embassy of Hungary, had the purpose of sharing US experience in the rapid commercialization of high technology products through an efficient innovation process and a reliance on private sector financing in order to contribute to improved innovation and to identify new opportunities for high technology growth.

Representatives of the business, investment, government, university and scientific communities were present, highlighting the importance of partnership among these groups. The session began a six-month project of continuing cooperation on selected issues (Information Technology, Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals), and will conclude with a session in Budapest in March 2005.

This project will also result in a White Paper that presents general lessons learned in the innovation process for consideration by the other new EU member countries from Central and Eastern Europe.
