At the invitation of of the
Rochester Business Alliance, Ambassador Simonyi paid a two-day visit to the
city of Rochester, N.Y. to participate in the International Business
Council's International Day.
The Ambassador visited the
National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), the world's first and
largest technological college for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. He gave a presentation to the students of the
institute about Hungary's recent accession to the European Union. During his
meeting with the president of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)
Ambassador Simonyi emphasized the importance of the connection between
academia and industry, resulting in new business opportunities for both
Hungary and Rochester. He also paid a visit to the Eastman School of Music
of Rochester.
Ambassador Simonyi was the keynote speaker of the annual International Trade
Banquet organized by the Rochester Business Alliance. He talked to the 500
guests about how to improve and deepen trans-Atlantic business relations.
Ambassador Simonyi underlined that Hungary has the talent to become one of
Europe's leading scientific centers -- Rochester's computer science and
biotech firms in particular could find opportunities in Hungary. The
goal is to find the ways to bring to Hungary Rochester's combination of
educational, scientific and business acumen, said the Ambassador.
The Ambassador talked with Jeffrey T. Carlson, Deputy Mayor of Rochester,
about forging a closer link between Hungary and Rochester in the field of
business, education, R&D and culture.
