Under
the patronage of Ambassador András Simonyi, the third annual gathering of
young Hungarian professionals took place at the Embassy today. Following
the two former Forums, young Hungarian and Hungarian-American scientists,
engineers and businesspeople discussed again the ways of building contacts
with Hungary.
The
new generation of Hungarian expatriates living in the U.S. showed strong
interest in cooperation with one another and in a more systematic, and
perhaps institutionalized exchange of information between them and
Hungary's public and private sectors.
Ms.
Sharon Hrynkow, Acting Director of the National Institute of Health's
Fogarty Center informed the young Hungarians about NIH's career policy and
the planned NIH alumni associations. Ms. Mary Kavanagh, Counselor of the
EC Delegation in Washington, spoke about ERA-Link, the latest initiative
of the European Union to bring together European researchers living in the
United States. Hungarian Deputy
State Secretary for Health Imre Holló was also a keynote speaker at the
Forum.
Representatives
of young Hungarian professionals came not only from the Washington
Metropolitan area, but also from New York, Boston, Buffalo, Pittsburgh,
Cleveland, North Carolina, and Florida.
