Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány,
speaking at the NATO summit in Brussels yesterday, announced that Hungary
would contribute 100,000 euros (roughly $132,000) to a special NATO fund for
the training of Iraqi security forces. This is on top of a military
contingent of 150 troops that Hungary is sending to Iraq later this year to
train the Iraqi forces. Hungary has also pledged to donate 77 tanks to the
Iraqi army.
The Prime Minister
underlined that NATO must be the primary pillar of global security, adding
that Hungary wants an able, willing and unified Alliance.
