Ms.
Katalin Szili, Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly presented the
Commander’s Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to
Charles Gáti, Professor of Johns Hopkins University, School for Advanced
International Studies (SAIS) today.
Professor
Gáti was honored by the President of the Republic for his endeavors in
promoting Hungarian-American relations in the past decades. At a ceremony
held in the Hungarian Parliament, Ambassador András Simonyi and Prime
Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány praised the Professor for his merits in
fostering bilateral relations.
The
former President of the Republic of Hungary Árpád Göncz, the Honorable
Tom Lantos and the Chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the
Hungarian National Assembly, Mátyás Eörsi, were among the many who
congratulated the Hungarian-born American Charles Gáti.
