Ambassador
András Simonyi visited the Michigan Humane Society in Detroit during
his recent trip to the city. The Humane Society is providing exemplary
help to animals that are found to be living under extreme conditions or
are abused by their owners. For over 125 years the organization has
played a pioneering role in the prevention of animal cruelty. They play
an important role in educating the public, which in the view of
Ambassador Simonyi, could be a source of experience for similar
Hungarian organizations.
The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted
with the activities of the Society and their methods of work. He
discussed the problems of animal welfare in Hungary and the United
States. He met with Cal Morgan, Executive Director, Bob Weiland, Board
Chairperson, Sherry Silk, Shelter Manager, David Williams, Director of
Operations, as well as investigators Mark Ramos, Debby MacDonald, Shawn
Hairston, and Mike Dowe Jr. The Ambassador congratulated the staff for the superb job they
are doing for our four- and two-legged friends.
