A new forensic laboratory, set up at the Budapest-based International
Law Enforcement Academy with substantial U.S. help, was opened on Monday
by Interior Minister Monika Lamperth, U.S. Ambassador George Herbert
Walker and FBI Assistant Director Charles Prouty.
Ambassador Walker said the new
cooperation would continue to boost already-close links between the two
countries and make criminology training full-scale at the academy.
Minister Lamperth said that the
facility, fit for both theoretical and practical training, had been
designed jointly with FBI staff. The Interior Ministry supported the
project and the U.S. provided the necessary
equipment, she added.
The training center, the
FBI's first abroad, will supply courses to Hungarian, Czech and Polish law
enforcement officers on the fight against organized crime and the use of
secret-service methods and fire arms.
