A
bipartisan delegation of the Foreign Relations Committee of the
Hungarian Parliament visited Washington between October 29 and
November 1, 2003 to discuss current foreign policy issues of mutual
concern, such as the future of transatlantic relations and the fight
against terrorism, with prominent members of the Congress and the
Administration.
The
Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Zsolt Németh (FIDESZ -
Hungarian Civic Alliance) as well as Zoltán Rockenbauer (FIDESZ), József
Gedei (Hungarian Socialist Party), Chairman of the Subcommittee on
Transatlantic Relations, and László Kránitz (Hungarian Socialist
Party) met Senator Richard G. Lugar, Chairman of the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee, Congressman Doug Bereuter, Chairman of the House
Europe Subcommittee, Congressmen Tom Lantos and Ernest J. Istook,
Co-Chairmen of the Hungarian American Caucus. The members of the
Committee also met with senior officials at the National Security
Council, the Department of State, and the Department of Defense.
