Under
the patronage of Ambassador András Simonyi, the second major gathering of
young Hungarian professionals took place at the Embassy today. Following
last year's Homecoming Forum, this was the second annual event where
young Hungarian and Hungarian-American intellectuals, scientists, and
businesspeople discussed ways of building contacts with Hungary. Bálint
Magyar, Hungarian Minister of Education, sent the meeting a letter, in
which he emphasized the importance of keeping these professionals in the
intellectual, cultural, and financial circulation of their homeland, and
promised support.
The new
generation of Hungarian expatriates living in the U.S. showed strong
interest in cooperation with one another and in a more systematic, and
perhaps institutionalized exchange of information between them and
Hungary's public/private sectors. Representatives of young Hungarian
professionals arrived not only from the Washington Metropolitan area, but
also from New York (The Manhattan Hungarian Network were introduced by
their patron, Gábor Horváth, Consul General), Buffalo, Pittsburgh,
Boston, Charlottesville, Florida, Connecticut, and Delaware.
The
participation of the representatives of the Talentis Knowledge Based
Development Program from Budapest shows signs of an increasing attention
by Hungarian private sector.
