Holocaust Anniversary Remembered in New York

Chief Rabbi Arthur Schneier, President of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation and spiritual leader of the Park East Synagogue, the Embassy of Hungary and the Hungarian Consulate General marked the 60th Anniversary of the Holocaust of Hungarian Jews at the Park East Synagogue in New York today. Speakers at the commemoration included Rabbi Arthur Schneier, Ambassador András Simonyi, State Secretary Attila Wéber, Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament, Ms. Katalin Szili, , Consul General Gábor Horváth, New York State Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi, New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Rep. Anthony D. Weiner (D-NY), and Ambassador Edward B. O'Donnell, the State Department's Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and his wife, Ms. Nane Annan Wallenberg, cousin of Raul Wallenberg, were also in attendance. Other dignitaries present included the representative of the Holy See and the Swiss Consul General in New York.
