The meeting

Recent initiatives to increase efficiency and transparency in economic management in Hungary will help it to develop a modern, thriving, competitive economy which can hold its own in an increasingly globalised world.

The group of Ambassadors, who represent countries which account for some 85 percent of foreign direct investment into Hungary, have expressed their strong support for recent initiatives from the Hungarian Government seeking to increase transparency and efficiency in economic management in Hungary.

Hungary is not alone in confronting these difficult and complex challenges.  The issues have been debated and discussed in all of the countries the Ambassadors represent at different periods in the last 20-30 years.

Drawing on their own governments' collective experience, they offered to share best practices and practical suggestions that will increase transparency and help Hungary to develop a modern model for economic management.

To assist in this, the Group of Ambassadors has commissioned a study by Transparency International into institutional strengths and weaknesses in Hungary, along the lines of similar reports already completed on other countries in the region. This Report should be completed by the end of this year.
