Trio Levinson Concert at the Embassy in Honor of 1956
As a part of series of 1956 Commemoration, the Hungarian Embassy and
"The Embassy Series" staged a beautiful concert that attracted
full house. Eugene, Gina and Garry Levinson played mostly romantic music on
piano, violin and double bass. The program included works of Bartok, Brahms,
Grieg, Rachmaninov, Ravel and Shostakovich.
The Levinson family fled the Soviet Union 30 years ago and this concert
was part of the series of concerts dedicated to the commemoration of their
"escape".
H.E. Ambassador András Simonyi spoke in his opening speech about
remembrance of the heroic fights and the importance of democratic values,
while Embassy Series director Jerome Barry introduced the background of the
flight of the artists from the ex-USSR some 30 years ago.
The performance, especially the Hungarian or Hungarian-related pieces,
met with great satisfaction on the part of the audience. The event, followed
by a reception, was also attended by the chairman and the vice-chairman of
the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Hungarian Parliament, Mr. Zsolt Németh
and Mr. Vilmos Szabó.
