2nd Mikulás Holiday Party for the Washington Partners and Friends of the Embassy of Hungary

 

The Embassy of Hungary hosted the 2nd Mikulás Holiday Party for the political, diplomatic, military and cultural partners and friends of the Embassy on Tuesday, December 9 from 5pm to 7pm. Ambassador Ferenc Somogyi welcomed all 100 guests, including Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Oh.) and US Chief of Protocol Nancy Brinker, and wished all friends and partners a merry Christmas and a successful new year.

The Embassy Mikulás Holiday Party Choir sang a traditional Hungarian Christmas holiday song (Pásztorok, pásztorok) and Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells in both Hungarian and English.

The choir included (from left to right): wife of the Ambassador, Andrea Bors Somogyi, Economic Counselor Edit Pápai, Economic Assistant Ilone Volter de Thier, Assistant to the DCM Mónika Varga, Press Attaché Zoltán Fehér (at the piano), Cultural Attaché Béla Gedeon, Science Attaché Balázs Erdei, and Political Counselor Sándor Mihálkó.

 

The Who Knows More About Hungary holiday party quiz consisted of 17 historical, cultural and gastronomical questions, with three participating teams: Super Santa, Spring of Freedom, and Santa Squad, competing for the grand prize: a cake by Embassy Chef Lázár Kovács. The final results turned out to be a 15-15 tie between Super Santa and Santa Squad, and the shootout catapulted the Super Santa team into the first place.

After the quiz, the Tisza Dance Ensemble performed traditional Hungarian folk dances.

Upon departing the holiday party, all guests received a traditional Hungarian Mikulás package of treats and a special holiday jam suprise by Embassy Chef Lázár Kovács.
