Rudolf Klein's Lecture on the Dohány Street Synagogue at Kossuth House

 

Dr. Rudolf Klein, Professor of Architectural History of St. Stephen University in Budapest, Hungary and Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Israel held a lecture on the history of the Dohány Street Synagogue, titled 'Tabak Temple of Budapest: Synagogue, Cathedral, Mosque - or All of the Above?' on Thursday, December 11, at 7pm in Kossuth House of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, just next to Dupont Circle.

Professor Rudolf Klein discussed in detail the social, cultural and architectural history of the Dohány Street Synagogue, and the role it played in the history of the Hungarian Jewry, then answered many questions from the audience during the Q&A.

Professor Rudolf Klein's recent publications include the 'The Great Synagogue of Budapest' (A Dohány utcai zsinagóga, in Hungarian), and his forthcoming book, 'The Typology of the 19th Century Synagogues in Historical Hungary' (A XIX. századi zsinagógák tipológiája a történelmi Magyarországon, in Hungarian), which is scheduled to be presented at the Embassy of Hungary in Fall 2009.
