Embassy Series Concert With The Mendelssohn Piano Trio Playing Haydn Trios

 

 

The Embassy Series and the Embassy of Hungary presented a superb concert by the Mendelssohn Piano Trio on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 7:30pm.

The outstanding chamber orchestra, including Pianist Ya-Ting Chang, Cellist Fiona Thompson, and Violinist Peter Sirotin played four piano trios by the Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809), commemorating the bicentennial of his death in the Grand Hall of the Embassy of Hungary.

 

Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-18095) is the world famous Austrian composer who lived and worked Fertőd-Eszterháza, Hungary and London, UK

 

The program of the concert included the following pieces:

 

1. Piano Trio in E Major, Hoboken XV:28

    Allegro moderato, Allegretto, Finale: allegro

2. Piano Trio in D Minor, Hoboken XV:23

    Molto andante, Adagio ma non troppo, Finale: vivace

 

Intermission

 

3. Piano Trio in F Sharp Minor, Hoboken XV:26

    Allegro, Adagio cantabile, Tempo di menuetto

4. Piano Trio in E Major, Hoboken XV:27

    Allegro, Andante, Finale: Presto

The concert was followed by a buffet reception, during which the Washington audience enjoyed delicious Hungarian dishes and wines.
