October 8, 2007 The American Hungarian Federation, the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, and the Nagy Ferenc Foundation organized a commemoration ceremony in memory of Former Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Nagy (1903-1979) on October 8th in Herndon, Virginia, where Ferenc Nagy settled down and lived from 1947 until his death. Tamás Holló, Vice President of the Nagy Ferenc Foundation opened the ceremony with the presentation of the flags by Arlington Junior ROTC and the performance of the American and Hungarian National Anthems. Stephen DeBenedittis, Mayor of the city of Herndon, shared his personal childhood memories of Ferenc Nagy. In his speech, Ambassador Ferenc Somogyi thanked the generosity of the city of Herndon for giving a second home to Ferenc Nagy, and emphasized the need for cooperation with a strong and unified Hungarian American community. Sándor Nagy, President of the Ferenc Nagy Foundation, Frank Kapitan, Washington Branch Manager of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, and Zoltán Bagdy, Co-President of the American Hungarian Federation talked about the historic lessons of the life of Ferenc Nagy in Hungary and the United States.
